Lanka Premier League 2026 Points Table Standings (03 Aug 2026)

Though the Lanka Premier League is still in its infancy, Jaffna Kings have pretty much dominated the league and grabbed four of the first five titles. As we enter the sixth season, the big question is whether any other team can finally break their stranglehold on the crown.

Although four of the five teams make all the playoffs, obtaining the top two positions is still prestigious due to the fact that those are the only two that receive a valuable second in the knockout stage.

How Points and Positions Work in the LPL

  • Win: 2 points
  • No result: 1 point to each team
  • Loss: 0 points
  • Tied match: decided by a super over, winner awarded 2 points
  • Tiebreaker when teams finish level on points: net run rate
  • Each team plays 8 league matches (double round-robin across five franchises)
  • Net run rate measures how quickly a team scores relative to what it concedes across all completed matches

  • Eliminator: 3rd vs 4th (loser eliminated)
  • Qualifier 2: loser of Qualifier 1 vs winner of Eliminator (winner reaches the final)

The Season Where Second Place Actually Matters

Most franchise T20 leagues treat the league stage as a survival exercise: stay in the top four and reach the knockouts. The LPL works differently. With four of five teams qualifying, survival is almost a given. The real prize is finishing in the top two, because that is the difference between having a safety net in the playoffs and facing sudden death.

That makes the points table less about who qualifies and more about who qualifies in the right position. Net run rate, head-to-head results, and the margins of wins and losses all feed into that picture. It is a table worth watching not for who falls out, but for who rises to the top.
